About Dr. Gitkind
I specialize in treating adults, children and teens experiencing different types of anxiety including social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, intrusive thoughts, health anxiety, phobias, as well as depression and life transitions. I also treat trichotillomania, skin picking, emotion regulation difficulties, ADHD, ASD and relationship problems.
In addition to working directly with clients, I also provide treatment to parents of children with mental health conditions. I am trained in SPACE (Supportive Parenting of Anxious Childhood Emotions) and The Kazdin Method for parenting.
I have extensive experience in providing evidence-based CBT treatments such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I have received advanced training in exposure and response prevention (ERP), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) and The Kazdin Method of parenting. I regularly integrate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based interventions into my work.
My passion for psychology began during childhood. In addition to being fascinated by human behavior and interactions, I found it rewarding to help others with behavior-related challenges and relationships. I am grateful to have turned my passion into a profession. My approach to therapy is a combination of openness, humor and flexibility. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and I believe in meeting the client where they’re at upon initiating our therapeutic relationship.
I completed a B.S. in Psychology from The State University of New York at Albany (SUNY). I went on to complete a M.S.Ed. from Queens College, and completed a Psy.D. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship in the Westport Public School District (Westport, CT). I completed my post-doctoral training as an adjunct faculty member at the Long Island University – Hudson campus, and as a private practice clinician with City and Country CBT, PLLC.
When not treating clients, I am usually spending time with my husband, two school-aged children and beloved Goldendoodle. I am very active in my community, where I serve on the Blind Brook PTA Executive board, as well as the Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester Board of Trustees. I am a lover of music and dessert, and can be found following the Dave Matthews Band around the country, or scouting out the closest bakery depending on the season. I also love dining out and spending time with friends.
